Manufacturing Engineer - Printable Description

The Manufacturing Engineer supports the day to day production and processes for CNC machining centers while supporting lean initiatives, continuous improvement projects, and standardization to support ISO 9001. Provides technical solutions regarding CNC programming, routing development, and tooling/fixture design. The requirements for this position that is located in our Specials Workholding are as follows:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Technology required. Equivalent related degree/experience will be considered. Six sigma belt training preferred
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in CAD/CAM required (AutoCAD, Inventor, MasterCam, SmartCam, or equivalent). Strong leadership capabilities, written and verbal communication skills, and working knowledge of manufacturing processes required. One to two years of continuous improvement and lean methodology experience required
Specific Technical Knowledge:

  • Three to five years of CNC programming required
  • Project management skills required

Reports To: Manufacturing Manager
Location: Elmira, New York
Responsibilities:

  • Provide the manufacturing operations with support resources to maintain and document existing processes
  • Analyze existing production facilities, equipment and performance to provide recommendations for needed capacity, efficiency, customer service, quality of safety
  • Analyze, evaluate, promote and oversee implementation of production improvements and cost reduction ideas using lean methodology. Lead process-related projects from inception to full implementation
  • Create and modify CNC programs, design tooling as necessary and establish standards/time studies and routings for production requirements
  • Facilitate continuous improvement throughout the location. Utilize Lean tool expertise (5S, Standard Work, DMAIC, Material Flow, etc.) to drive continuous improvements
  • Coordinate new product release from Product Engineering to Manufacturing, including sourcing to other manufacturing sites – this role can be project support or project lead
  • Perform make vs. buy investigations and value analysis studies for cost improvement or cost avoidance
  • Represent Manufacturing Engineering in technical review analysis, provide process expertise and guidance on best practices to support manufacturing internally and externally

Maintenance Supervisor - Printable Description

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for directing the maintenance department in performing troubleshooting and repair of company machinery and equipment, maintaining the buildings and grounds, and managing the facility systems and programs. The requirements for this position that reports to the Plant Engineer are as follows:
Education: Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred. Leadership and team training preferred
Experience: A minimum of 6 years of industrial maintenance experience required. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience required plus proven leadership, delegation, written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor and discretion when handling confidential information required. Ability to manage major capital projects and prioritize resources effectively required
Specific Technical Knowledge:

  • Sound blueprint and schematic reading skills required
  • Proven machine repair/rebuild, hydraulic, welding and fabricating skills required
  • Strong electrical and/or mechanical knowledge required

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the installation, maintenance and repair of plant machinery, equipment and auxiliaries, including related water, gas, electric, and other services; the maintenance of plumbing, heating, and air conditioning
  • Make periodic inspections of material handling equipment, fire-fighting equipment and installations, heat and power equipment, air conditioning units, dust removal facilities and other safety and service installations. Maintain necessary records
  • Work from authorized requisitions, work orders, drawings, specifications, lists and other data to arrange daily work of the department for the most effective use of employees and equipment
  • Check availability of materials, initiate requisitions for special requirements
  • Review data received and contact departments concerned to schedule work with a minimum effect on production time
  • Follow progress of work, anticipate or investigate causes of delay or inadequate performance; take corrective action within limits of established practice; refer unusual cases to Plant Engineer
  • Reassign personnel as workloads necessitate
  • Maintain equipment in good condition, work areas clean and orderly. Eliminate safety hazards
  • Direct, instruct, assist and check subordinates as to methods, schedules, standards of performance, rules and regulations, safety precautions and other matters affecting their work
  • Maintain discipline and good personnel relations. Handle grievances and complaints within limits of established company policies and practices.

Senior Mechanical Engineer - Printable Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer conceptualizes and designs the mechanical elements of CNC High Precision Turning Centers. The requirements for this position that is located in our Engineering Department are as follows:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience machine design and proficiency with 3D CAD (preferably Inventor)
Specific Technical Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of CNC machine tools, ballscrew driven slides, hydraulic systems, rotary axis (spindles), and finite element analysis (FEA) preferred
  • Project management skills required

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Use 3D CAD to design concept layouts, detailed machine designs, and generate bill of materials (BOM’s)

Machinist – 2nd Shift (4 Positions available) - Printable Description

Education: Two year degree in Machine Tool Technology, or a high school diploma/general education degree (GED) with equivalent experience is required
Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience as a Machinist preferred
Specific Technical Knowledge:

  • Experience producing tight tolerance components in a production environment
  • Experienced in manual and CNC type machining processes using a wide variety of machine tools
  • Experienced in manual and CNC type machine set-ups, monitoring, change-outs, etc.
  • Working knowledge of a wide variety of inspection devices to inspect components produced
  • Written and verbal communication skills, ability to work cooperatively with other team members
  • Willingness to learn and at times teach others

Reports To: Value Stream Leader
Location: Elmira, New York
Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the set up and operation of both conventional and CNC machining equipment to produce components efficiently and accurately. The machinist will load / unload parts on machines to support maximum spindle utilization time, perform in-process inspection of machined parts to verify conformance to customer requirements, monitor parts as they are completed on the machine, and detect malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. The position runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing work area practices including 5-S, Visual Controls, Standard Work, work center metrics, and continuous improvement processes and supports team members in these processes. While performing all duties and responsibilities, the Machinist will at all times, model Hardinge Inc. values and principles and act in a manner consistent with the Hardinge Inc. Code of Conduct and Ethics.
